Split GIF into frames

Choose, drop or paste one GIF, APNG or WebP. This GIF frame extractor lists frames in source order, numbered from 1. Each card shows its delay in milliseconds. Open a card to download that frame as PNG, or download all frames in one ZIP.

What the PNG contains

Each PNG is the full displayed frame, including changes carried over from earlier frames. Frame offsets, transparency and disposal instructions are handled during decoding. The image is not resized or quantized. PNG encoding is lossless compression of the decoded pixels; it does not recover detail missing from the source.

Timing and supported browsers

GIF delays are read from the file in hundredths of a second and shown as milliseconds. APNG and WebP delays come from the browser decoder. A zero delay is shown as zero, not replaced with a playback guess. Individual PNG files do not contain animation timing; the frame list shows the source timing.

This version requires browser ImageDecoder support for the selected format. If your browser cannot decode it, the tool reports that limitation rather than extracting only the first frame. Static PNG and WebP produce one frame. Other formats, remote URLs and cloud imports are not supported.

Local processing and limits

No fixed file-byte cap is imposed. Available memory and browser resources limit what can be extracted. Each full-size PNG and its preview uses memory; long or large animations can be slow or fail. Extraction checks a two-minute safety budget between frames. ZIP files use standard ZIP without ZIP64; archives beyond its size or entry limits are rejected.

Frequently asked questions

Can I download one frame?

Yes. Each frame card downloads its own PNG. Files are named frame-0001.png, frame-0002.png and so on.

Does GIF to PNG preserve transparency?

PNG can retain the transparency decoded from the source. It cannot add soft transparent edges that were not present in a GIF. Preview a frame on the checkerboard before using it.

Are my files uploaded?

No. File decoding, PNG encoding and ZIP packaging run in your browser. This site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics for website usage statistics; your file content is not sent to analytics. See the privacy policy.

Do I need an account?

No login, no registration, no added watermark and no saved file history. One source file at a time.

Can I edit the animation first?

Use Crop GIF edges or Resize GIF dimensions. For a smaller animation file, use the GIF compressor.
