Convert GIF to video without uploading

Choose, drop or paste one local GIF. This converter makes a silent WebM video with VP8 encoding at 50 frames per second. Preview it on this page and download the actual encoded file. It exports one animation cycle at the original pixel dimensions. No login, registration, added watermark or saved history.

Which source frames survive?

The coverage count tells you how many GIF frames receive at least one video frame. Open the coverage list to see the stored delay and assigned copy count for every source frame, numbered from 1. A row with zero copies is not shown as its own image in the video. This is calculated from the GIF data, not a claim about what you can see or about another converter.

How variable delays become fixed video frames

Each video frame lasts 20 milliseconds. For each cumulative GIF boundary B in milliseconds, the converter calculates q(B) = round(B × 50 / 1000). A GIF frame receives q(end) − q(start) copies. The copies repeat the decoded image; no motion interpolation or AI-generated in-between images is used. Encoding always follows original source-frame order.

Rounding can change a stored hold by up to 20 milliseconds and the total duration by up to 10 milliseconds. Very short or zero-delay frames can receive no copies. All source frames are still decoded in sequence so that later images retain GIF disposal and compositing effects. A file whose total duration rounds to zero video frames cannot be converted. GIF players can clamp short delays differently; this mapping uses stored delays, not the wall-clock playback of a browser.

What changes in the video?

GIF loop metadata is shown for reference but is not carried into WebM. The exported file contains one cycle, including when the GIF loops forever. Replay or looping is a video-player setting. Transparent pixels are composited onto white. VP8 is lossy: colors and fine edges can change. Conversion does not restore detail missing from the GIF, and the result is not guaranteed to be smaller.

The video has no audio track. This page does not export MP4, add sound, repeat cycles, change dimensions, accept URLs or cloud imports, process multiple files, or convert APNG and WebP. Check whether your destination accepts WebM before converting.

Supported browsers and practical limits

GIF87a and GIF89a inputs are supported when the browser provides GIF ImageDecoder, VideoEncoder and VP8 encoding. The page checks support before enabling conversion and checks the selected resolution again. Unsupported browsers display an error and do not produce a download. HTTPS is required outside localhost.

There is no fixed input byte ceiling. Usable size depends on browser memory. Safety limits reject more than 100 million decoded source-frame pixels, 300 million output-frame pixels, 10,000 video frames or 2,000 GIF frames. Processing stops after two minutes. A compressed GIF can require much more memory when decoded. A failed conversion produces no download.

This page uses native browser decoding and encoding, with a local WebM container writer. It does not call a conversion API. Existing engine source and license files remain available with the site. Cloudflare Web Analytics records website statistics; your GIF content is not sent to analytics.

Frequently asked questions

Is convert GIF to video the same as changing the filename?

No. Every output video frame is encoded as VP8 and packaged in a WebM container. Renaming a GIF would not make it a playable video.

Will every GIF frame appear?

Not necessarily. The coverage list identifies frames with zero allocated video frames. Short delays can disappear when the stored timeline is rounded to the 20-millisecond grid. Longer holds repeat an image rather than inventing motion.

Does the result play forever?

No. The file contains one cycle. Its GIF loop marker is not a WebM playback instruction; use the destination player's repeat option if needed.

What if I need a smaller GIF instead?

Use Compress GIF or Reduce GIF size. To shorten the source first, use Cut GIF duration.

Can I convert a video in the other direction?

Use Convert video to GIF. You can also Extract PNG frames, Crop GIF edges, Resize GIF dimensions or Reverse GIF playback.
