Compare motion and detail before downloading. Resizing and optional compression can change the picture. A resized file can be larger.

Resize an animated GIF in your browser

Choose, drop, or paste one GIF file. Enter a width or height with the aspect ratio locked, or unlock it to set both dimensions independently. You can also use percentage scaling. Resize, compare the previews, and download the GIF.

Supported files and safety limits

This GIF resizer accepts animated and still GIF87a / GIF89a files and exports GIF. Direct URL import works only when the source allows browser access. Cloud storage account imports are not supported.

Input files must be no larger than 50 MiB. Input and output dimensions must be between 1 and 4,096 pixels on each side, and width × height × frame count must not exceed 100 million frame pixels. Processing stops after a two-minute safety timeout. These limits do not guarantee that every device can handle every permitted file.

What changes, and what stays

Scaling changes pixels and may alter detail, edges, colors, or transparency around edges. Upscaling does not recover missing detail. Unlocking the aspect ratio can stretch or squeeze the picture. The tool does not deliberately drop frames; it checks that frame count, frame delays, and loop metadata match before offering a download.

Colors and lossy strength are optional compression controls. The defaults keep 256 colors and disable lossy compression. A resized GIF may be larger than its source. This page keeps the resized result even when it is larger, so your requested dimensions are not replaced by the original file.

Measured resize runs

Measured on this machine on 2026-10-09 using one photograph-based animation. Each row is one run, not an average. Picture changes are possible and other devices may be slower.

Frequently asked questions

How do I change the size of a GIF to exact pixels?

Choose Exact pixels. With the ratio locked, changing either dimension recalculates the other, rounded to a whole pixel. Unlock the ratio to use an exact width and height independently.

Can I resize animated GIF files without losing animation?

The animated GIF resizer processes the animation and checks frame delays, frame count, and loop metadata. No frames are deliberately removed. Preview the result before using it.

Will my GIF be uploaded?

Selected, dropped, and pasted files are processed on your device by gifsicle WebAssembly in a browser worker. Direct URL import downloads from that source without a proxy. This site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics for website usage statistics; see the privacy policy.

Does it need an account or add a watermark?

No login, no registration, no added watermark, and no saved file history. One GIF is processed at a time.

Can I make the output smaller in bytes?

Smaller dimensions or optional color reduction and lossy compression may help, but a smaller file is not guaranteed. See reduce GIF size or use the GIF compressor.

Can I resize a GIF for Discord?

Set your required dimensions here. Then compare the actual result bytes against your upload limit. The GIF Compressor for Discord page explains that workflow.
