Trim GIF by time or frames

Choose a GIF, enter the start and end of the segment to keep, then cut and download. To shorten GIF animations by exact frame numbers, choose Frames mode. First and last frame numbers are inclusive and start at 1. This page keeps one continuous segment; it does not join multiple clips.

See what a time cut actually keeps

A GIF consists of whole frames with individual delays. In Time mode, this cutter keeps every frame whose stored time interval overlaps your requested interval. It rounds the start down and the end up to frame boundaries, retaining the whole boundary frames and their original delays.

The readout shows requested times, actual retained times and the signed difference at each end in milliseconds. These values are calculated from this file's recorded delays, not measured browser playback. Let B(k) be the sum of all delays before frame k. The actual start is B(first kept frame), and the actual end is the sum through the last kept frame. Each difference is actual time minus requested time.

If any frame has a zero delay, use Frames mode: a zero-length stored interval does not give an unambiguous time selection. Browsers can clamp short delays during playback, so stored duration is not a promise of wall-clock duration.

What changes and what stays

Frames outside your range are removed. The retained frames keep their sequence, dimensions, original delays and recorded loop setting. The engine expands dependent frame rectangles before selecting the range, so the new first frame has the preceding image state it needs. Cutting does not intentionally resize, reduce colors or apply lossy compression.

Rewriting frame rectangles can increase file size even when the animation becomes shorter. The actual generated GIF is offered, including a larger result; it is not silently replaced with the original. Removing a start or end can make the loop transition visibly different.

Supported files and limits

Input and output are GIF87a / GIF89a. Select, drop or paste one local file. APNG, WebP, video, remote URLs, cloud imports and multiple files are not supported on this page. No fixed file-byte cap is imposed. Browser memory still limits usable files, and the tool rejects more than 100 million frame pixels (width × height × frame count). The worker is stopped after a two-minute processing timeout.

No login, no registration, no added watermark and no saved history. Gifsicle WebAssembly runs in a separate browser worker. This site uses Cloudflare Web Analytics for website statistics; your GIF content is not sent to analytics.

Frequently asked questions

Is trim GIF the same as cropping?

Trimming shortens the animation in time. Crop GIF edges removes parts of the picture. Resize GIF dimensions scales the picture.

Will cutting make the file smaller?

It may, but fewer frames do not guarantee fewer bytes. Compare the actual result size. For size-focused changes, use Reduce GIF size or the GIF compressor.

Can I download static frames instead?

Use Extract PNG frames for individual images or a ZIP of all frames.
